Quantum many-body relaxation in driven-dissipative spin systems
Abstract:
Understanding the relaxation dynamics of strongly interacting quantum many-body systems coupled to an environment remains a major challenge in higher dimensional systems, where conventional approaches such as exact and tensor-network methods face severe limitations. This is particularly pronounced when collective many-body effects play an important role in the dynamics. In this talk, I will discuss phase-space approaches to the nonequilibrium dynamics of driven-dissipative spin systems in two dimensions, as well as a novel tree tensor network approach that allows us to access regimes beyond the reach of phase-space methods. As shown, the interplay of coherent dynamics, strong interactions and dissipation leads to highly nontrivial relaxation pathways, including long-lived metastable states and crossovers between distinct steady-state regimes. These results provide a framework for investigating scenarios that can be experimentally explored using Rydberg-atom quantum simulators.
