Description

The central goal of this project is to realise a fully scalable analog quantum simulator for a U(1) symmetric gauge theory using ultracold atomic mixtures. Building on the achievements of the first funding period, including the experimental implementation of the relevant gauge theory building blocks, we proceed to realize an extended system in one spatial dimension. We investigate the crucial question of how to certify the reliability of large-scale quantum simulators, using correlation functions that test Ward identities. This project will provide us with a platform to theoretically and experimentally address long-standing open problems in quantum field theory, including the realisation of real-time dynamics of strong fields far from equilibrium and the study of the thermalization process in gauge theories.
